Quick answer

We checked the payment pages of 19 email providers in November 2026. Six take Monero directly, four can be paid for with XMR through a reseller, one takes Monero only as donations for a free service, and the rest either accept other coins only or do not say which coins they take. "Pay with crypto" on an email site often means Bitcoin, so we only list a provider as Monero-friendly where its own site, or its official reseller, says so.

All prices below are as of November 2026 and are taken from the providers' own pages.

Best for most people

If you want a mainstream, well-audited inbox with apps and calendars, Proton Mail or Tuta are the safe picks, even though neither takes Monero on its own checkout. Proton's payment page lists cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, cash and bank transfer. Tuta's own guide says its subscription is paid by card or PayPal, and that its gift cards can be bought with Monero or Bitcoin.

The route for both is ProxyStore, a shop in Leipzig that sells vouchers for Proton, Tuta, SimpleLogin and addy.io and accepts Monero, Bitcoin, cash by post and SEPA transfer. A Proton Mail Plus voucher costs €47.88 for 12 months; Proton sells the same plan directly at $3.99 a month billed yearly, with support for one custom domain. Tuta gift cards come in €18, €36 and €96, and only work on personal accounts. Codes are delivered once your payment confirms on the blockchain.

If you would rather pay the email provider itself, Navi Land is the most complete of the small Monero-only services we checked. It offers IMAP and SMTP access, encrypted storage, a Tor onion service, aliases for premium users and custom domain support, with lifetime storage plans starting at €25. It accepts Monero and nothing else, and says it does not ask for a phone number or personal information. It does not say where it is based.

ghostBox is the cheapest way in: a €5 one-time fee for 256 MiB, with custom domains supported and data currently hosted in Switzerland. It is honest about its limits. Mail is not end-to-end encrypted, only the server disk is, and the operator cannot reset a lost password unless you agreed a reset token in advance. It also had an unplanned move from Luxembourg to Switzerland in 2025.

Iceland and other privacy jurisdictions

People searching for "Iceland email hosting" usually want two things: a provider under Icelandic law and one that does not need a card. We did not find a dedicated, mailbox-only email service in Iceland that takes Monero. What exists is web hosting with email included.

1984 Hosting is the long-running Icelandic option. Its web hosting includes unlimited email accounts and storage, with webmail and a mail server at mail.1984.is. It costs €2.74 a month on a one-year promotion, with a higher renewal price. Its FAQ says it accepts Bitcoin and Monero, paid from the dashboard. There is one catch: for tax reasons it does not offer crypto payment to users who appear to be located in Iceland, so an Icelandic VPN exit will hide the option.

FlokiNET lists Iceland among its four locations, alongside Romania, the Netherlands and Finland. Its shared hosting includes unlimited email accounts and starts at €3.50 a month, but that price is for Romania; we could not confirm the Iceland price. FlokiNET charges no fee on Monero and shows only a number on invoices, without account details.

Jurisdiction is only part of the picture. Proton is a Swiss corporation, Tuta is in Germany and Mailfence is in Belgium, and each follows its own country's rules on data requests. A company's home country and the country where its servers sit can differ, so check both. And no jurisdiction helps much if mail is stored in readable form, which is why end-to-end encryption matters more than the flag on the about page.

No-account and token-login options

For "anonymous email" in the strict sense, the question is what you have to hand over to sign up.

  • VaelMail asks for no name, recovery email or password. You sign in with a 16-digit account number, and if you lose it the account cannot be recovered. Plus costs €5 a month when paid in crypto and is prepaid, with no auto-billing. It lists 18 coins, Monero among them, paid through a non-custodial invoice. Its site does not say where it is based.
  • egali.top sells a 100 MB mailbox for 0.005 XMR, ordered through Session Messenger or its web shop. It runs from a small server in the operator's bedroom, and the page itself says to prefer not to use it as your main mailbox.
  • Neir, based in Sweden, uses an Account Key and a 12-word recovery phrase instead of a password and asks for no name, phone or ID. Pro costs $4.99 a month, prepaid in crypto through the processor Heleket, but its pages do not name the coins, so we could not confirm Monero.

Cock.li is free, says it never asks you to verify personal information, and takes donations in Monero or Bitcoin. That makes it Monero-friendly, but there is no paid plan to buy.

Aliases vs full mailboxes

An alias service gives you addresses that forward to an inbox you already have. It hides your real address from shops and sign-ups, but it is not a mailbox, and the forwarding service sees the mail that passes through it.

SimpleLogin costs $36 a year directly, or €33 a year as a ProxyStore voucher, and its pricing page says it works with ProxyStore for crypto, including Monero. Premium includes unlimited custom domains. addy.io takes cryptocurrency for yearly plans on its own site without naming the coins; ProxyStore sells its Lite plan for €12 a year and Pro for €36 a year.

A sensible setup is a full mailbox from the list above plus an alias service in front of it, so the address you give out is never the one you log in with.

Providers that do not take Monero (or we could not confirm)

  • Mailfence (Belgium) lists cards, Bitcoin, Litecoin, PayPal and wire transfer. No Monero.
  • Mailum takes over 50 cryptocurrencies through CoinPayments, according to a Make Tech Easier review, but we could not find Monero named.
  • Elyria Email shows a "Buy with Crypto" option on its pricing page without naming the coins.
  • Neir takes crypto through Heleket; coins not listed.
  • MonstaDomains accepts Monero for domains and other services, but we found no email hosting product on its site.
  • Librem One lists plans from $1.99 a month, but we found no Monero payment option on its site.
  • GoyMail: its site would not load for us, so we could not check.

How to pay for email with Monero

  1. Pick the payment route. Direct checkout (ghostBox, Navi Land, VaelMail, 1984 Hosting, FlokiNET) or a ProxyStore voucher for Proton, Tuta, SimpleLogin or addy.io.
  2. Create the account first if needed. Proton and Tuta vouchers are redeemed inside an account; save any recovery phrase or account number offline.
  3. Choose Monero at checkout and pay from your own wallet by scanning the QR code. See how to pay with Monero.
  4. Wait for confirmation. Vouchers and upgrades are released once the payment confirms on the blockchain, usually within minutes.
  5. Note the renewal date. Prepaid plans do not auto-renew, and an expired plan can lose storage or features.

Questions people ask

Does Proton Mail accept Monero?

Not directly. Proton's own payment page lists cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, cash and bank transfer. You can still pay with XMR by buying a Proton voucher from ProxyStore, Proton's reseller, which sold Mail Plus for €47.88 a year as of November 2026.

Is there an Iceland email host that takes Monero?

1984 Hosting in Iceland includes unlimited email accounts with its web hosting and accepts Monero through its dashboard. It does not offer crypto payment to customers who appear to be located in Iceland, for tax reasons. FlokiNET also has an Iceland location and takes Monero with no fee.

What is the cheapest anonymous email I can pay for with XMR?

egali.top sells a 100 MB mailbox for 0.005 XMR, and ghostBox charges a one-time €5 for 256 MiB. Both are small operations, and egali.top itself advises against using it as your main mailbox.

Can I get email without giving an email address or phone number?

Yes. VaelMail signs you in with a 16-digit account number and takes Monero. Navi Land says it does not require a phone number or personal information. Neir uses an Account Key instead of a password, but we could not confirm it takes Monero.

Does Tuta accept Monero?

Only through gift cards. Tuta says you can buy its gift cards with Monero or Bitcoin from its partner ProxyStore. The subscription itself is paid by card, PayPal or, for some business customers, bank transfer.

Does Mailfence accept Monero?

No. Mailfence lists Bitcoin and Litecoin among its payment methods, but not Monero.
